A Case For Dietary Supplements
59It's Not Because They Taste Good
… Because more than likely, dietary supplements don't taste that great. After all, they are not real foods but they should be derived from real food sources!
Here we go!
I've met the heavy users, ocassional users who forget to take their vitamins or supplments every other day and the absolute skeptics who refuse to believe supplements can offer any value to their lives.
Well, this is the voice of just one person now but I'm going to try to remain unbiased and pose an argument for users and skeptics (those in the middle are just not for strict regimens).
Skeptics: Let's consider a couple of issues.
1. Current state of raw foods: I love to eat a very balanced diet on a daily basis. However, the reality is that so much of our food supply is tainted. ost of us don't spend enough time examining the products we purchase or consume. We take a quick 20,000 ft view of the RDA chart and move on. Most don't consume nearly enough greens and fruits, that our bodies need to replenish water-based nutrients that water can't compensate for our bodies.
2. Time: From the moment our society awakens, we are already running. Rarely do we make time to appreciate nature much less a good breakfast. Most people can't seem to take enough time to breathe between personal and business life of putting food on the table. I'm an advocate of lifestyle but since our society is now in constant chase mode, It's important to speak in general terms. Unless you're willing to learn from Tim Ferriss and really become a part of the NR (New Rich), you're pretty much going to continue running with no end in sight. So, to compensate for the nutrients you aren't getting or to help you extend your energy levels without stressing yourself to near fatal levels, vitamins and supplements can truly make a world of difference!
In an ideal world, we should find all the nutrients our bodies need directly from the source(s). Then again, there is little we do today that is natural. We are now in a perpetual state of debating the potential dangers modernization has inflicted on us all. Add to this the impact stress has on our modern life and you get a condition that conflicts with our natural function.
I'm currently working on dedicating an entire series of blogs to stress.
What certain wholefood-based supplements do is offset the impact our poor diets and stress have on our lives. In no way am I endorsing poor habits of diet and lack of exercise. I'm merely stating that since we already know most of our foods lose their nutritional values before they get to our table, prepare to be lack certain nutrients! The way around that is to go that extra mile and ensure you're selecting the right (raw) foods on a daily basis.
There are also times where we are just deficient in certain vitamins such as folic acid. For example, I found that consuming biotin and Bluebonnet (brand of choice) B-Complex has improved my hair growth and prevented additional hair loss (when done in tandem with proper external hair maintenance). Also, I use VavAlert natural cognitive supplement to help boost my focus and memory (both of which seem to get the best of me)… again, my preferred choice. Althought, there are other products on the market that might be suitable for you. I don't believe multivitamins are the right choice. It's a personal decision. Whatever you decide to do, educate yourselves and get to know the company behind the supplements when making a decision. That's what I did and continue to do. After all, too many companies are looking to simply profit in an industry that has very little oversight.
